STOP Anna Bligh & Cape Alumina mining the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve

12,300 Hectares, strip mined for 50,000,000 tonnes of bauxite from a 135,000 Hectare pristine Cape York, Australia wilderness environment.

We won the first round! The Wenlock has been declared a 'wild' river under the Queensland Wild Rivers Act 2005 & Cape Alumina P/L have scrapped their Pisolite Hills project (the bauxite strip mine planned for the Wenlock basin).

I met up with the passionate group at The Wilderness Society (TWS) in their Brisbane office today, Friday 3 December 2010, to talk Wild Rivers.

Glenn Walker heads up TWS' Wild Rivers campaign and is a fountain of knowledge on this subject.

We talked about the way forward and how best to work together so we can ensure this irreplaceable part of Australia is never destroyed by greedy corporates and/or blundering governments.
